Sustainability

Stilj™ acoustic felt core is an environmentally friendly acoustic solution made from recycled plastic bottles. Responsibly sourced wood is also used in the production of Stilj™ MDF, selecting only from forests that adhere to sustainable forestry practices. Our materials are carefully sourced from sustainable origins, fully recyclable, and completely free of VOCs.

Stilj™ is made up of a series of slats and grooves. The slats are made of MDF with a veneer surface. The sound that passes through is further absorbed by the polyester backing and an acoustic substrate such as fibreglass or mineral wool, which reduces reverberation in the room.

To bring a second life to plastic bottles, we make use of used plastic bottles to produce Polyx™ panels. The bottles are sent to the recycling centres in densely pressed bales from the junkyard. The sorting machine removes all the coloured caps and labels while cleaning and sorting them. The sorted bottles are then sent to the granulator.

Large rotating blades shred the bottles into 1 cm flakes and remove any debris. What were once plastic bottles are now pure PET flakes. The PET flakes travel through an extruder, melting them and forming polyester fibres. As a result, hard plastic gets a soft wool-like texture. The fibres are then cut into thin sheets to prepare them for felting.

The felting machine folds the fibre in layers and compresses it. Thousands of barb needles stab the material, turning it into felt. Following the same principle, three sheets of felt are merged together into a dense mat, ready for pressing. The pressing machine transforms the felt into a solid large panel while maintaining its wool-like texture.

Responsibly sourced wood is used in the production of Stilj™ MDF, selecting only from forests that adhere to sustainable forestry practices. The manufacturing process is tailored to minimise waste, with off-cuts and sawdust being either repurposed or recycled.

Stilj™ panels are made from E1 Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), recognized for its low formaldehyde emissions. This grade of MDF is one of the safest options in engineered wood, complying with building construction standards to ensure good indoor air quality.

Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our use of eco-friendly materials, such as recycled acoustic felt and sustainably sourced wood. By prioritizing sustainable production practices, we aim to minimize our environmental footprint while providing high-quality, durable products. We are dedicated to creating spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.
